Remembering the ones we've lost

Teddy came to us at the end of March 2009, at the age of 15 years, with many health problems.  After some intensive care, teddy was able to go outside and experience the sun on his back and soft grass under his feet.  In June 2009, shortly after this photo was taken, Teddy died in his favorite bed, in front of the fireplace, in his sleep.

Although we didn't have him long, he will always remain in our hearts.  He was a special little boy.

TUG - a.k.a. Koda, came to rescue on January 24, 2007.   Found wandering the streets, this 8 year old, partially blind boy was unadoptable.  That's what they thought.

Tug was adopted on June 10, 2007.   From an unwanted stray, to a beloved best friend, Tug lived his last years knowing that he was truely loved and cared for.  Always happy, he seemed to smile at the sound of his owners voice.

Tug crossed to the rainbow bridge on Febuary 22, 2009.  He has left  holes in the hearts of the people who loved him.  Tug will always be remembered.

POOH - This sweet old girl of 10 years, came to us on June 9, 2007.  She was so ill, that they transporters weren't sure she would survive the trip from Tennessee.  She has been diagnosed with uterine cancer, had just been spayed, and had severe kennel cough.

Pooh slowly got better with holistic medicine, the cancer went into remission and she started to enjoy her life.  She slept on the bed, had special rights and privledges, ate Little Cesars, ok, she was a little spoiled.  But she was a fighter, she fought to live, even when the cancer returned in Oct. 08.  No matter how sick or sore she was from her surgeries, Pooh never got snappy or mean, she would just look at you with those big eyes.  Those eyes closed for the last time on Febuary 11, 2009.  She left an emptiness at Safehaven that is hard to describe.  We miss you Pooh.

SHILOH - Given up after her owner died, Shiloh, 10 + year old, had problems from the start.  That didn't matter to her foster mom, who showed her what being loved is all about.

Even though her illness was severe, with medication, diet, and the caring of her foster mom, Shiloh seemed to be getting better.  She started playing, running, and enjoying life.  Shiloh was always comfortable and clean, with a soft place to lay her head.

Shiloh crossed to the bridge on February 10, 2009.  She died in her sleep, in a soft warm bed.

Although she had not been in foster care for long, Shiloh touched many lives and hearts.  She will always be remembered.
